Emmy Reed

Emmy Reed is the senior digital communications associate for the Greater Yellowstone Coalition and the current host and producer of the Voices of Greater Yellowstone podcast.

Hailing from the flatlands of Illinois, Emmy’s connection to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem stems from her family’s cross-country road trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. She finds joy in talking to anyone with a story about this remarkable ecosystem.

When she’s not at her computer or behind the camera, Emmy can be found exploring the ecosystem with her husband Jeff and trusty pup Luna, sharing The Lord of the Rings trivia with unsuspecting victims, and trying to keep her vegetable garden alive.

Kristin Oxford

Kristin Oxford formerly hosted the Voices of Greater Yellowstone podcast. Kristin grew up in northwest Montana near Glacier National Park and, following stints in California, Egypt, Syria, and the Philippines, returned to Montana in 2020 to make a home “east of the divide.”

Kristin spends time in the great outdoors with her husband, Jeff, and in the great indoors with her two cats. She enjoys hiking, fly fishing, and reading; and is particularly passionate about Oxford commas, em dashes, and asking “why?”

Dr. Mike Poland

Mike Poland is a research geophysicist with the Cascades Volcano Observatory and the current Scientist-in-Charge of the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory.

Mike's area of specialization is volcano geodesy, which emphasizes the surface deformation and gravity fields associated with volcanic activity. This work involves the use of space-based technologies, like Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR), as well as ground-based techniques, like microgravity surveys. Mike has taken part in studies on a variety of volcanic systems in the United States, including Mount St. Helens and other volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest, Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes in Hawaii, and the Yellowstone caldera.

His recent work has focused on using gravity change over time to understand the character of the fluids that drive volcanic unrest, and also on the potential of satellite data to improve forecasts of future changes in volcanic activity.

Dr. Scott Hotaling

Dr. Scott Hotaling works for Utah State University’s Department of Watershed Sciences. A leading expert in mountain ecology and hydrology, Scott and his team focus on how the cryosphere—Earth’s collection of frozen water—is changing and how these changes are impacting downstream environments. He’s been working in the Teton Mountains for over a decade studying rock glaciers, which are an exciting ray of hope.
